Our next meeting is scheduled for August 17, 2010, at the Library Center in Springfield, Mo. The meeting will start at 6:30 PM, but the doors open at 6:00 to give everyone a chance to “meet and greet” fellow attendees.
This month’s speaker will be Jeff Steinman. Jeff will be leading a session on getting the most out of Microsoft Project. This presentation will include discussions on the difference between duration/work tasks, fixed unit/duration/work tasks, and how to leverage work estimates while using duration tasks.
Remember, this will be a PDU event. Attendees will earn 1 PDU. Individuals involved in project management in all industries are welcome and encouraged to attend. You DO NOT have to be PMI certified or a PMI member to attend. Project Managers of all industries are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Here is a little more information about Jeff:
Jeff Steinman has been a Certified Associate in Project Management since 2006 and is currently managing medium and large scale projects for McKesson Corp. in Springfield Missouri. Originally from Canada, Jeff holds international work experiences in a number of vertical sectors including software development, healthcare, and education. Jeff has experience working on projects ranging from $50,000 to $1 million and has a passion for the profession of project management. Jeff holds a degree in Computer Sciences and Certificate of Mastery in Process Reengineering. Jeff has also recently received certifications in Comptia Project + and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Managing Project using Project 2007 certification.

Here is a little more information about Mark.:
Mark Kuehl is a Program Manager with Advancia Corporation, working in Waynesville, Missouri. Mark manages an Army five year, $80 million Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) contract. He currently maintains all LLC information technology support at four Army installations throughout the United States. Mark also manages service support contracts for the U.S. Army Engineer School and the Army’s Command and General Staff College to provide subject matter experts and general and tactical instructors support.
Prior to his civilian career, Mark served 31 years in the United States Army serving as an Engineer Soldier. During his career, he commanded Engineers from Squad to Battalion sized units. His last assignment was as the Director of Plans, Training, and Mobilization at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Mark and his wife, Traci, own Integra United Corporation, a women-owned, small disadvantaged defense contracting business. Integra United is now offering PMP® Boot Camp Courses (Four and Ten-Day) in the Fort Leonard Wood area.

This month’s speaker will be N.K. Shrivastava, PMP. NK will be leading a session on Risk Management for Projects and discussing the concepts as well as practical aspects of managing project risks. He will also share the technique that he uses to quantify risks and their impact on project schedule and cost. He found this technique to be very useful in communicating risks and their impact to project sponsors and to the “C” level executives. For more information about N.K.’s presentation click here

N. K. Shrivastava PMP, works as Vice President of consulting services at IIS Inc, a North Carolina based IT Company. NK has been successfully managing and delivering medium to large software projects for more than 20 years. NK has expertise in recovering troubled projects through careful planning and risk management. NK also provides management consulting, coaching, and mentoring to his customers on project management and related areas. Presentation Added: Psychology and Technology of Project Collaboration

This month’s speaker will be Juanita Woods, MBA, PMP. Juanita will lead an interactive discussion on project collaboration and how technology can help (and hinder) collaborative efforts. With the growth of virtual teams and the abundance of web-based tools, this topic is both timely and critical for project managers at all levels.

Our next meeting is scheduled for April 20, 2010, onsite at ANPAC in Springfield, Mo. The meeting will start at 6:30 PM, but the doors open at 6:00 to give everyone a chance to “meet and greet” fellow attendees.
This month’s speaker will be Paul Hauschen, PMP, CPCU. Paul is the Director of ANPAC’s Multiple Line Project Management Office. Paul will be presenting a case study on how to how the chapter might set up a PMP certification workshop.
This will be a PDU event. Individuals involved in project management in all industries are welcome and encouraged to attend. You DO NOT have to be PMI certified or a PMI member to attend. Project Managers of all industries are welcome and encouraged to attend.

ANPAC is located at 1949 E Sunshine in Corporate Centre, just east of the corner of Glenstone & Sunshine in Springfield, Missouri. Corporate Centre sits back off Sunshine Street just a little bit with a big yard in front. When you turn in the drive, circle around to the right and park in back of those first buildings. Come into the central kiosk area and turn toward the left. There will be signs and people to guide you. (See attached map)

Paul has over 25 years experience in information systems and business divisions spanning several industries. He has worked in manufacturing with the Rayovac Corporation, catalog distribution with the Pleasant Company, financial services with the CUNA Mutual Group, and government in the New York State Comptroller’s Project Management Office. He has served as professional development director in the Madison, Wisconsin, and Albany, New York, chapters of PMI, founding PMP Prep Workshops in both chapters. Paul earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 1997, his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 2007, and holds a Master of Science in Project Management from the University of Wisconsin.

As we approach the completion of our chapter formation, the topic for the February meeting will be “Member Expectations of PMI SWMO Chapter”. Because we need member input , the format of this meeting will be a “roundtable” style discussion.

Our next meeting is scheduled for January 19, 2010, at the new Republic High School. The school is located at the corner of State Hwy ZZ and W. State Hwy M in Brookline, Mo. Please use the entrance on Hwy M.
This month’s speaker will be Dr. Vern Minor, the superintendent of Republic School System. Dr. Minor will be giving us a tour of the new high school and answering questions about this project. More about our speaker: Linda graduated in 1984 from the University of Missouri Rolla (recently renamed Missouri University of Science and Technology). Linda received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Engineering Management. Linda is a registered Professional Engineer with the State of Missouri. Upon graduating in 1984 , she came to work at MoDOT in the Design Department and eventually moved into leading a design team. In 1996, MoDOT reorganized and created a new job title called Transportation Project Manager. Linda moved into at the position of Transportation Project Manager at that time and has been a Project Manager ever since.
Linda has an extensive and high profile project background including James River Freeway, Route 65 Branson to Springfield, Rte 13 Bolivar to Collins, Rte 13 in Stone County, Sunshine/ Rte 65 Interchange, I-44/Rte 65 Interchange, Rte 60/65
