September 2010 Meeting

Click here for presentation file: Coaching 101 for Project Managers

Our next meeting is scheduled for September 21, 2010, at the Library Center in Springfield, Mo. The meeting will start at 6:30 PM, but the doors open at 6:00 to give everyone a chance to “meet and greet” fellow attendees.

This month’s speaker will be chapter president Juanita Woods, MBA, PMP. Juanita will lead a session on coaching for project managers. Project managers and coaches have at least one thing in common: they encourage people to perform at a high level for a specific goal. By learning key coaching skills, project managers can improve their ability to manage projects by improving their ability to lead the people involved in the project. This session aligns with PMBOK 4th Edition, section 9.3, “Develop Project Team.”

Remember, this will be a PDU event. Attendees will earn 1 PDU. Individuals involved in project management in all industries are welcome and encouraged to attend. You DO NOT have to be PMI certified or a PMI member to attend. Project Managers of all industries are welcome and encouraged to attend.

If you plan to attend, please send an RSVP through the chapter website (http://swmopmi.org/about/rsvp/). Reservations are not required, but greatly appreciated.

Here is a little more information about this month’s speaker:
Pro3 Solutions is the brainchild of Juanita Woods, a certified Project Management Professional and experienced trainer and speaker. Ms. Woods realized early that all organizations, small or large, for-profit or not-for-profit, experience common issues in processes, leadership, and management. There is a definite need to increase the leadership and management capabilities of leaders and contributors in all organizations.

During her career, Ms. Woods has worked with both major corporations and small nonprofit organizations, and has found that most issues in management and leadership can be directly attributed to communication styles and capabilities. While functional knowledge is very important, most problems can be dealt with more effectively when the speaker knows how to speak appropriately and the listener understands the importance of active listening. Ms. Woods works with management at all levels as well as with individual contributors to increase their capabilities and communicating both as a speaker, writer, and listener.

With ten-plus years of project management experience and training on business, management, and project-related topics, Ms. Woods enjoys sharing best practices in the field of project management, leadership, and general business. Her speaking style is engaging, inviting, and brings humor to the conference and classroom.
